USDF “L” Dressage Judge Training
structured certification program was created 15 years
ago by USDF. Goals are to better prepare future dressage
judges and achieve continues standards in dressage judging.
The faculty of "L" program are paid, but the
rest of people are all volunteers. If you care about future
of dressage judging, make a difference, please consider
volunteering for "L" program.It’s really
an exciting and unique opportunity to be a part of the
USDF “L” Judging program.
Organizers are volunteers.
It can be an individual or GMO, Chapter organization.
USDF "L" Dressage Judge Training programs are
quite rare and only a 10 participants are admitted to
final exam. Some of the participants wait several years
to get in to the program and others travel from other
states to participate.
Scribes are volunteers
and very important to the success of the graduation from
"L" program. It's a custom that "L"
participant to pays for a travel, hotel, and food for
their scribes.
Runners & scores are
volunteers. Runners need to "snatch" finished
tests from "L" participants and deliver it to
the scorers. Scores add up all of the scores using calculators
and write the total points on the test sheets.
Demo riders are volunteers
as well. USDF "L" program needs about 12 riders
for 3 sessions. Riders get a chance to have a free lesson
with the top US judges. They ride and get critiqued affront
of 40+ people, auditors and "L" participants.
Barn owners volunteer their
barns to host USDF "L" program and allow to
use their facilities for a day.
Show managers volunteer
to use their shows for final exams of USDF "L"
participants.
Show managers allow USDF
"L" participants to be present at their rated
shows and practice judging or "sitting with judges".
Judges volunteer their
time and allow USDF "L" participant to sit with
them during the show that they judged and answered questions.
Schooling show managers
give USDF "L" participant their first opportunity
to practice, co-judge a schooling shows.
